Social cue: Abbreviation
Communication system: Verbal
Cue category: Style
Cue Description
The CA uses shortened forms of a word or phrase.
Cue example
CA: “No. of times in the last year having a feeling of guilt?” instead of “Number of times in the last year having a feeling of guilt”.
Cue impact
Abbreviations are perceived as less anthropomorphized language and lead to an impersonal communication style that reduces the social perception of the agent (Sah et al. 2015).
