Social cue: Conversational distance
Communication system: Visual
Cue category: Proxemics
Cue Description
The spatial separation between the CA and its environment during a conversation.
Cue example
CA appearing far away when conversing or CA is really close to user.
Cue impact
Distance between user and agent impacts the perceived dominance of agent (Cafaro et al. 2016; Isbister, Nass 2000). Closer visual proxemic further enhances relationship building and increases the working alliance between the agent and user (Bickmore et al. 2005).
